Averie Hatton currently serves as the Special Education Director for an Independent School District, where she leads district-wide efforts to ensure compliance, implement effective programming, and support inclusive education for students with disabilities. In her current role, she also oversees the supervision of all assessment personnel, ensuring accurate evaluations, timely reporting, and adherence to legal and ethical standards in special education assessments.

With over 25 years of experience in the field, Averie has worked in every area of special education within public school systems. Have been a Special Education Director for the last for the last 5 years and I currently serve as a Special Education Director in a Independent School District. Her roles have included Classroom Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, Department Chairperson, Principal, Instructional Coach, and Licensed Educational Diagnostician.

Through each of these roles, she has remained committed to creating equitable learning environments and empowering educators to meet the diverse needs of their students.

Averie holds a certification as a Licensed Educational Diagnostician and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Her academic work reflects a deep passion for transforming education systems to better support students with exceptionalities and their families. She has led multidisciplinary teams, interpreted complex assessment data, guided the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans, and delivered professional development focused on compliance, inclusive practices, and instructional strategies. Beyond her leadership in schools, Averie is also a published author and educational advocate.

She is the creator of The Urban Educator’s Prayer Journal, an inspirational tool designed to uplift and support educators throughout the academic year. She has also developed a parent-focused online course that equips families with essential knowledge about the special education process. In addition, she authored a children’s book that promotes acceptance and inclusion of students receiving special education services, helping to foster empathy and understanding among young readers.

Averie’s mission is grounded in advocacy, empowerment, and equity. Her work continues to influence not only her school district but also the broader educational community through her writing, leadership, and dedication to inclusive education.
